INTRODUCTION & FAQ - LIFT STUDY TRAINING

What sort of training is this?

This training is for people who want to learn how to create and prepare Crane & Rigging studies in the form of a detailed document, suitable for presentation either to a client or to meet internal company requirements. There are two main types;

  • Using AutoCAD to create highly detailed and accurate rigging arrangement and crane lift drawings for inclusion in a detailed lift study.

  • Basic lift planning not requiring AutoCAD. This is for people who already know exactly how the lift will be carried out and what equipment will be used, but who also need to prepare a basic lift study document.

Is this training suitable for you?

It is important to note that this training is intended for people who already have some experience in the crane and rigging fields.

It is not intended as an introduction to the industry, nor is it intended to turn people into crane and rigging experts. During the training we will be using terminology, and making references to things, that will be familiar to experienced crane and rigging people but may be confusing for inexperienced people.Whilst nobody will be automatically rejected, we strongly advise seriously considering what value you will get for your money if you are not already in the industry. Please feel free to contact me at any time to discuss further if you are unsure.

Is this nationally recognised training?

No, it is not. As there is no formally recognised qualification in the field of lift planning, there is no point in me spending a lot of time and money to become a registered training organisation and then charging to suit. I would not be able to issue any nationally recognised certification. I will issue a certificate of completion which will clearly set out all the subjects covered.

What types of training are available?

There are two main types of training;

      Type 1 - Direct, in person or via Teams or Zoom etc

      Type 2 - A downloadable video package so you can learn at your own pace

What does it cost?

Type 1 - Direct, in person or online training

Firstly, we do not offer any fixed price courses. This is because we prefer to tailor the training to your specific needs. There is little benefit in sitting through a lot of information you may already know, or conversely, a lot of highly technical stuff that is not relevant for your requirements.

Hourly rate for all Type 1 training options is a maximum of $150 per hour plus GST. Estimating the cost to complete the various types of training is difficult as the time required will vary widely depending on each person’s industry experience and level of computer skills.

Please see the Type 1 Training page for an indication of the time required for various types of training. This will give you a rough estimate of costs, but please contact us to get the most accurate estimate. Significant discounts may apply in some circumstances.

Please also note that unlike almost every other type of training, there are no minimum charges. You can call a halt at any time and only pay for the time taken, to the nearest hour.

Type 2 - Learn at your own pace video training package

Please see the Type 2 training page for details of the package and pricing.

What is included in the training cost?

  • For all types of training, of any duration, 12 months backup by phone, email or messaging (Slack)

  • For basic, non-CAD training – Excel based templates for single hydraulic or crawler lifts, and a dual crane lift template.

  • A Word template for a lift study cover.

  • Plus a large collection of crane and rigging load charts and info - tailored to your needs.

  • For CAD based training – all the above plus a significant number of ready to use rigging, crane and transport CAD blocks tailored to your requirements (approx value $750)

What do I need to have to do the training?

You will need to have your own computer or laptop. At a minimum, you will need to have a word processing program (ie Word) and a worksheet type program such as Excel, as well as Adobe Acrobat, installed on the machine. For the full AutoCAD training, you will need to have your own licensed software package installed. There are some other software packages that can be very handy as well. We'll discuss them with you prior to the training, to make sure they are suitable for your needs.

Who will provide the training?

Russell Parker. So who am I? I started in the crane industry in early 1977, which gives me nearly 46 years experience to share and pass on. I have been doing CAD based crane and rigging studies since the beginning of 1994. That gives me around 28 years of experience in providing crane and rigging studies to a huge range of end users ranging from the smallest lifts up to twin iron ore car dumper cells with a total lift weight of over 500 tonnes. I have provided lift studies to clients such as BP, Woodside, BHP, Rio Tinto, FMG and most of the major construction companies in Australia. You can read about my time in the industry, as well as other industry relevant articles by me, here

Coronavirus issues (in person training only)
